Robert Huston Glasgow passed away March 31, 2015. He was born in Roff, Ok September 28, 1935 to Joe Huston and Ethel Izora Glasgow.
Robert lived in Roff, Ok through the 6th grade, then his family moved to Davis, Ok. He graduated from Davis High School in 1954. While in high school he attended a basketball game where he saw a girl playing. Later that day he noticed that she was working in the concession stand and convinced his friend to introduce them. He married Virginia Norman on December 1, 1955 and they just recently celebrated 59 years in love.
Robert and his new wife lived in the Davis, Ok area and had 2 children. He worked in the oil field before taking a job that moved them to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1965. He started working for a private owner training horses. In 1967 he began to train racing horses on his own. He trained horses that won the Fire Cracker Futurity First Consolation and several other races. Robert is also one of the original Grand Prairie Horse Trainers and a member of AQHA, the Jockey Club, APHA and Appaloosa Association.
Robert was so good with horses that people would say when he was around you didn't need a vet. He helped several jockeys get their start and very well respected everywhere he went. 17 years ago, Robert found his personal relationship with Christ and became a member of Cowboy Church of Ellis County.
Robert was a fair and honest man who loved horses and his family. He was the disciplinarian with his kids but spoiled his grand and great-grandchildren. He was kind hearted and known as "Grandad" to everyone. Easy to temper, but quick to forgive Robert was a friend to everyone. He would also give help to anyone in need, from money to borrowing a car to helping care for their horse.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Glasgow; children Tish Gibson and her husband Kevin, Bob Glasgow; grandchildren Samantha Robbins, Jeremy Heien and his wife Amanda, Candice Fincher, Cody Glasgow; great-grandchildren Mikhayla Robbins, Clayton Robbins, Cameron Fincher, Joe Heien; brother Wayne Glasgow and his wife Gay; bother-in-law Johnnie Norman and his wife Francine; sister-in-law Juanita Warren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home from 2-6pm.
A graveside service will take place at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis, Ok on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 2pm.
