LaVora Maye Leverett, age 88, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 15, 2017, with her family by her side.

LaVora was born September 15, 1928, in Estelline, Texas, to Charlie and Esther Wynn. She was the second youngest of nine children. After high school, she moved to Weatherford, Texas, where she met and married Douglas Claude Leverett on September 20, 1946. They were married for 66 years and had two children, Rebecca Dianne Welch and Douglas Earl Leverett.

LaVora Maye Leverett, age 88, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 15, 2017, with her family by her side.

LaVora was born September 15, 1928, in Estelline, Texas, to Charlie and Esther Wynn. She was the second youngest of nine children. After high school, she moved to Weatherford, Texas, where she met and married Douglas Claude Leverett on September 20, 1946. They were married for 66 years and had two children, Rebecca Dianne Welch and Douglas Earl Leverett.

LaVora diligently worked inside and outside her home. A few of her responsibilities included manager and director of Howard Johnson Restaurant, quality control at Texas Instruments, proshop manager of ICARE Fitness Center, and then she left the workforce to care for her two granddaughters. After retirement, Doug and LaVora enjoyed traveling and camping with the Rambling Sams RV Club, playing cards and dominoes with friends, and spending time with their family. Doug and LaVora had been residents of Grand Prairie and members of Inglewood Baptist Church since 1959.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, her son Douglas Earl, her brothers, Olie, Olar, Rhubert, C.J., Doyce, Billy Joe, Jesse, and her sister, Evelyn.

She is survived by: daughter Dianne Welch, son-in-law Jim Welch; granddaughters Jami Bicknell (and husband Timothy Bicknell) and Susan Bishop (and husband Adam Bishop); and five great-grandchildren Emily Bishop, Allison Bicknell, Kaylee Bicknell, Ethan Bishop, and James Bishop.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 17, from 6-8 pm at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at Inglewood Baptist Church at 9:00 am and interment at DFW National Cemetery at 11:00 am.
